Exponent Philanthropy | Donor-Advised Funds

Strategic Framework
The resulting strategic framework identifies our strategy to support and inspire those who choose to give with few or no staff by engaging them in new and powerful ways. Specifically, we pursue three lines of work:
  • Guide, representing our commitment to creating and sharing the knowledge you need to excel in all phases of your work.
  • Connect, reflecting our pledge to foster rich connections between you and fellow members, our staff, and trends that influence your giving.
  • Champion, demonstrating our passion for documenting, sharing, and celebrating your incredible work and that of your colleagues.

From SSRI | The art of love in philanthropy

The Art of Love in Philanthropy
"...it is the relationships between the parties who have an interest that makes or breaks the success of a program. These relationships flow between the organization’s staff, the youth involved in the program, parents and extended families, and powerful peer-groups, all of which intersect within a community culture. These are the “influences” of a pretty complex system that is part cognitive, part non-cognitive; and therein lies the “love” factor. Therein lies the art.
I agree with Bloom, and I agree with our client—you cannot have a great gift if you deny the donor or the recipient philanthropic love. Sublime philanthropy demands an emotional investment as much as it demands economic and process investment."

From the Stanford Social Innovation Review | Strategic Planning Series

The skills and mindset for today’s strategic planning will come from continuously asking ourselves these questions about our organizations, programs, and initiatives. Once we accept Dwight D. Eisenhower’s sage advice that “Plans are useless, but planning is everything,” we will be ready to adapt to whatever curveballs the twenty-first century sees fit to throw.

The Strategic Plan Is Dead

Do NOT become confused and adopt the belief that this is synonymous with no longer needing to plan strategically.  NOTHING could be less true.

Knowledge Management

The Value of Strategic Planning & Evaluation The Value of Strategic Planning & Evaluation In this ongoing series of essays, practitioners, consultants, and academics explore the value of strategy and evaluation, as well as the limits and downsides of these practices. Strategic philanthropy requires reliable information. But in a world increasingly dominated by big data, foundations are only beginning to think about what kind of data to collect and access. That in itself is challenging, but actually using that data will require something even more challenging: developing a culture of knowledge management.
